Class 8 — Corrosives: IMDG segregation

Class 8 (corrosives) must be kept segregated from most other dangerous goods. It cannot share a container with 7 of the other classes — including Class 1.1, Class 1.3, Class 1.4, Class 5.1 and more. The table below gives the exact code against every class.

Class 1.1 — Explosives (div 1.1–1.2)	4	Must NOT be packed in the same container — they must be “separated longitudinally by an intervening complete compartment or hold from”.

Class 2.1 — Flammable gases	1	May be packed in the same container but kept apart (“away from”) — not stacked against or next to each other.
Class 2.2 — Non-flammable, non-toxic gases	—	No general segregation requirement between these classes — check the per-substance Dangerous Goods List entry.
Class 2.3 — Toxic gases	—	No general segregation requirement between these classes — check the per-substance Dangerous Goods List entry.
Class 3 — Flammable liquids	—	No general segregation requirement between these classes — check the per-substance Dangerous Goods List entry.
Class 4.1 — Flammable solids	1	May be packed in the same container but kept apart (“away from”) — not stacked against or next to each other.
Class 4.2 — Spontaneously combustible	1	May be packed in the same container but kept apart (“away from”) — not stacked against or next to each other.
Class 4.3 — Dangerous when wet	1	May be packed in the same container but kept apart (“away from”) — not stacked against or next to each other.
Class 5.1 — Oxidizing substances	2	Must NOT be packed in the same container — they must be “separated from”.
Class 5.2 — Organic peroxides	2	Must NOT be packed in the same container — they must be “separated from”.
Class 6.1 — Toxic substances	—	No general segregation requirement between these classes — check the per-substance Dangerous Goods List entry.
Class 6.2 — Infectious substances	3	Must NOT be packed in the same container — they must be “separated by a complete compartment or hold from”.
Class 7 — Radioactive material	2	Must NOT be packed in the same container — they must be “separated from”.
Class 9 — Miscellaneous dangerous goods	—	No general segregation requirement between these classes — check the per-substance Dangerous Goods List entry.

Based on the IMDG Code 7.2.4 general segregation table (main classes only). Individual substances can carry stricter or looser rules in their Dangerous Goods List entry (column 16b) — always verify the specific UN numbers before stowing a real load.
